In 2023 the City of La Crescent created a team to focus on making La Crescent a Heart Safe Community.  Heart Safe designation is awarded by the State of Minnesota through the Minnesota Department of Health and indicates a team is working to improve education and access to emergency care which needs to be provided as soon as possible when witnessing an event.  This means that we not only need prepared and equipped police, first responders, fire fighters, and EMS teams, but also that we all need to be ready to respond quickly in the event of a cardiac arrest.

Did you know that for every one minute of cardiac arrest, a person’s chance of survival decreases by 10%? Depending on where an event happens in a more rural setting like La Crescent, it could take 4 minutes or more until arrival of emergency responders, so getting started immediately by prepared and trained police and bystanders is vital!
